Black Star Pastry has forged a name for its sweet creations – including the world’s most Instagrammed cake – but a new partnership with South Dowling Sandwiches will see a limited edition pie hit the shelves.

The dome-shaped pithivier-style pie’s filling will consist of South Dowling Sandwiches’ signature blend of caramelised carrots, spicy chilli chicken and red pesto. The filling is most commonly found on the shop’s most popular sandwich, known as “The Biatch”.

The pie will be available for just a short period of time – May 22 until June 1 to be exact – at select Black Star Pastry and South Dowling Sandwiches locations around Sydney and online.

It was back in 2023 that South Dowling Sandwiches claimed the title of Australia’s Best Sandwich in the Wotif Uniquely Aussie Awards. The Darlinghurst-based shop, had been open for more than two decades at the time, and was revamped by current owner Avi Labi into a cult lunch location.
