Bakers Delight gears up for National Hot Cross Bun day

Bakers Delight will be celebrating National Hot Cross Bun Day again in 2026

For the second consecutive year Bakers Delight is getting ready to celebrate National Hot Cross Bun Day.

Once again on March 13, 2026, more than 500 Bakers Delight bakeries across Australia will give away 300 hot cross buns each – totalling 150,000 buns nationwide.

Following an overwhelming response to the inaugural National Hot Cross Bun Day last year, Bakers Delight will be cementing the day as an annual tradition to kick off the Easter season.

Bakers Delight chief marketing officer Jodi Murray-Freedman said last year’s National Hot Cross Bun Day exceeded all expectations.

“We had queues out the door before opening and the energy was incredible,” she said.

“It’s become a highlight for our customers and our team – a proper celebration of the Easter season and a chance to share what we do best with the community. We’re expecting even bigger crowds this year.”

Between January and April Bakers Delight produces approximately 18 million hot cross buns, while during Easter week alone 4.2 million hot cross buns will come out of ovens across the country. Ultimately that equates to roughly 66 tonnes of chocolate chips for the choc chip hot cross buns, 105 tonnes of sultanas and 75 tonnes of currants for the traditional variety, and 27 tonnes of Pink Lay apples for the apple and cinnamon variety.
