Four years after the sudden closure of his 11 Sydney and Melbourne store, celebrity chef Adriano Zumbo is rebuilding with the opening of his fist Queensland store on the Sunshine Coast.

After several years working at restaurants on the coast following the collapse of his dessert empire, Zumbo has opened Zumbo Test at Noosaville, creating the sweet treats he is best known for.

The Rene Street business features classics from his Sydney and Melbourne stores—including his famous macarons—as well as some new creations.

The venture, which launched just in time for Valentine’s Day, is an order online and pick up only store, with no word as to whether this will change in the future.

After skyrocketing to fame with his croquembouche challenge on MasterChef in 2009, the ‘Dessert Assassin’ as he became known turned into a household name. His humble Balmain bakery in Sydney’s inner-west also took off, with Zumbo opening four more stores (and one popup) in Sydney, three stores and a high tea salon in Melbourne and production kitchens in each city.

However, the business empire went into administration in 2018, with his three retail companies owing over $10 million to creditors, employees, suppliers and the tax office. Administrators found that the companies had been trading while insolvent since at least mid-2017.
