On August 9, the Wollongong baking Show took place at the Illawarra Campus of TAFE NSW. The event was hosted by the Baking Association of Australia (BAA) and was very popular.
Something excellent about this yearβs competition was its ability to bring people from far and near to put their entries in and be a part of things.
BAA executive officer Tony Smith said one of the highlights of the show was a young female apprenticeβwho was 15 years oldβwho travelled all the way from Mudgee to Wollongong with her family to put her entries in for the competition.
Despite being a little bit out of the way, the Wollongong Baking Show was still well frequented.
β[It was] very well attendedβ66 bakeries entered, and there were 273 pieces of product,β Tony said.
The title of Champion Loaf of the Show was taken out by Lagom Bakery for their flavoured sourdough, while Gumnut Patisserieβs Renee Bridges won the Champion Cake/Pastry of the Show award for her gateau. Jason Crouch from Bakers Delight Albion Park Rail took out Most Successful Bread Exhibitor, and Damo Wright from Parfait Patisserie won Most Successful Cake Exhibitor.
A full list of results from the day can be found here.
As for the end of the show, Tony said that the event finished on a very positive note.
βEveryone was on a high and celebrated well into the night,β said Tony.
