William Angliss Institute Bakery Student Claims

William Angliss Institute bakery student Sarah Pyman has claimed the 2018 John Patrick Conway Award.

As part of the competition, Sarah, who works at Swan Street Bakery and Patisserie in Richmond, Melbourne, set to work performing a practical demonstration and presentation creating a selection of cakes, tarts and eclairs, in addition to writing an essay. Her hard work claimed the $6000 prize.

William Angliss students Sarah has invested her prize money back into her workplace, buying a share in the business.

The award is made possible through a bequest from the estate of the late Mrs Leah Conway to acknowledge the memory of her late husband, John Patrick Conway, who was for many years one of Melbourne’s most highly regarded bakers.

It has offered a prize of $6000 to the winning student each year since 2003.

Judged by an external panel of industry professionals, the student’s work is reviewed against a strict criteria.
