WA and ACT clean up in ASB National Scholarship Awards
Two trips to Germany were up for the winning at the awards night that recognises baking greats old and new.
The Australian Society of Baking (ASB) National Scholarship Awards night was held in October, with the industry’s best converging on Surfer’s Paradise for the night. The annual scholarship awards are split into two categories, the Arthur E Denison Trophy (eligible to 25s and over) and the Sydney J Packham Baking Industry Medal (eligible to 18- to 24-year-olds).
Finalists for each award were chosen before the night to represented Australian regions northern, southern, western and eastern, and a national winner from this pool was announced on the night for both the Denison and the Packham awards.
The winners were presented with their trophies at the Gala Chairman’s Dinner.
The Arthur E Denison Trophy went to Patrick Contreas from Allied Pinnacle in WA who won on his research paper titled The Trendy Bakery.
Entrants to The Sydney J Packham Baking Industry Medal had to answer a broad cross section of industry questions in their application. This year, the award went to Tiffany Davies from Tutto Continental from the ACT.
The night also saw certificates of excellence go entrants who were only just pipped at the post by the winners.
Janet Blythman from ASB said, “Congratulations not only to the winners but to all the people who made the time and effort to enter this year’s scholarships.”
The regional winners will attend trips to South East Queensland while the two national winners will attend IBA 2018 in Germany.
