The first Baking Association of Australia (BAA) national competition for the year has been announced – the Victorian Baking Show.
The Victorian Baking Show will take place from 9am until 4pm on March 1 at the All Seasons Hotel in Bendigo.
Competition categories on the day will include white bread, wholemeal bread, gourmet bread, grain bread, pie section, and cake and pastry section.
There will also be an Apprentice Section, which will require competitors to make a 450g 3 strand plait, 680g loaf white condensed squared (4 piece), and two small individual fruit tartlets.
Entries for the Apprentice Section of the competition are free for all students, although students can also enter other classes to earn points. Each apprentice entry will earn points, and the Victorian RTO with the most amount of points will be awarded the Victorian Training Trophy.
The baking show will also host two other major competitions on the day: the 2025 Australia’s Best Hot Cross Bun and the 2025 Australia’s Best Vanilla Slice competitions. Rounding out the event will be the awards night.
Last year’s competition saw a record number of entries from more than 130 bakeries in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales submit products to the Australia Best Hot Cross Bun and Australian’s Best Vanilla Slice competitions. Matt Aylett from North End Bakehouse successfully took home both the Best Vanilla Slice and Best Hot Cross Bun titles – the first time in the competition’s history that the two top prizes were awarded to the same entrant.
Further information and nomination forms can be found on the BAA website.
