Victoria gathers to decide on best hot cross bun

The Baking Association of Australia (BAA) and the Baking Association of Australia Victoria hosted the annual Victoria Baking Show and the 2018 Australia’s Best Hot Cross Bun Competition in Shepparton from February 24 to 25. Known affectionately as the baker’s weekend away, the show saw a new level of entries, which broke records for another year with 99 bakery exhibitors. Judges were pushed to their limits, judging 628 pieces of product on the Saturday.

The new-look tradeshow collected all exhibitors under the one roof, plus the demonstration area was more hands-on than previous shows. The show also heard industry talks including one from Michael Plarre who explained the dos and don’ts of expanding your business.

On the Saturday night, 150 people gathered to celebrate the announcement of the 2018 Australia’s Best Hot Cross Bun, which was awarded to The Good Loaf Sourdough Bakery in Bendigo.

Laurie Whelan from The Good Loaf was over the moon and delivered a well-received speech to all industry participants.
