Tyra Banks has officially launched the flagship store of her SMiZE & DREAM ice cream brand in Sydneyβs Darling Harbour.
The permanent store opening follows a series of successful pop-ups around the city and represents not just a business expansion, but what Tyra describes as a love letter to her mother.
βThe name of my ice cream company, SMiZE & DREAM, is after myself and my mama. So, Iβm the SMiZE, which means smile with your eyes and be fierce. And the DREAM is my mum, because my mum sacrificed so much to make her dreams come true, and decades later, to make my dream come true,β Tyra told New Idea.
Located near Tumbalong Park, the store’s placement wasnβt accidental.
βI love Darling Harbour because of this park. Tumbalong Park is magical,β Tyra said in an earlier interview with Daily Mail. Her family, she added, would often visit the area on weekends, even before the store opened.
βThereβs a playground for older kids, one for younger kids, Darling Square nearby, the harbourβit just felt natural.β
The American supermodel-turned-entrepreneur began developing her ice cream line while working with cruise lines visiting Australia, eventually falling in love with Sydney during her frequent visits.
βI was coming for about a year and a half and just fell in love with it,β she told Daily Mail.
βAnd I said, should we make this move? And here we are.β
The store is infused with nostalgic elements from Tyraβs childhood in California, where Friday nights meant ice cream and dreaming big with her mother in the familyβs white Honda Accord.
βEvery Friday night after homework and dinner, weβd have girls night at the HΓ€agen Dazs ice cream shop in Hollywood… weβd laugh, cry and DREAM our biggest, most outrageous CREATIVE DREAMS… together,β the SMiZE & DREAM website detailed.
Tyra now dedicates SMiZE & DREAM to βMamas and Mama figures everywhere,β celebrating women whoβlike her own motherβworked tirelessly to build better lives for their families.
βCool Mamas. Quirky Mamas. Turnβt up Mamasβ¦ BFF Mamas. Creative Mamas. All the Mamas!β
