True-blue Pie Maker Goes Maroon For Charity

Former South Sydney Rabbitohs captain Sean ‘Garlo’ Garlick has added Queensland colours to Garlo’s Pies’ offering for the duration of the 2014 NRL State of Origin series.

The proud New South Wales supporter has sold blue potato-topped pies in Sydney for years, however, he decided to sell limited edition maroon pies to Brisbane’s iconic Caxton Hotel to raise money for a good cause.

The maroon-coloured pies, along with lean beef pies, were gifted to the hotel, with $3 from every sale donated to charity Men of League Foundation (MOL).

In operation for more than a decade, MOL works to improve the lives of those involved with the close-knit rugby league community, including those injured and recovering from serious injuries, as well as grants and scholarships.

MOL Queensland manager Steve Calder said he is calling on the passionate rugby league community to rally behind Garlo’s initiative.

“Join with us to support the mascots, mums and dads, referees, commentators, canteen volunteers, coaches and players,” he said.

“And what better way is there to raise money than the classic combinations of footy, pies and state pride?”
