REVEALED: Australia’s Best Pie and Pastie 2022

Baking Industry Participants filtered through the Baking Industry Trade Show at Melbourne’s Moonee Vallee Racecourse over three days from May 31 to June 2, taking in the products and demonstrations on offer. However, there was one moment everyone was waiting for—the reveal of the winners of the Australia’s Best Pie and Australia’s Best Pastie Competitions, which were painstakingly judged over the three-day expo.

Presented by the Governor of Victoria, the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, the award for Australia’s Best Pie went to Rolling Pin Pies & Cakes, Victoria, for their new creation, a Creamy Mushroom and Truffle pie, which first won the mushroom pie category before going on to be named Australia’s overall best pie.

It is the second year running for the Rolling Pin crew—in 2021 they got the top gong for their Surf and Turf pie.

Meanwhile, the title of Australia’s Best Pastie went to South Australia’s Orange Spot Bakery, after a two-year absence from the competition.

Regular top entrants in the competition, Country Cob Bakery, were again no strangers to the judges’ praise, taking out a whopping 19 Gold medals and three Champion trophies in the Meat Pie, Gourmet Pie and Vegetarian/Vegan Pie categories.

The Trade Show and Competition were hosted by the Baking Association of Australia, which said, “The competition has been amazing and sent the judges taste buds in over drive!”

The full results from the three days of judging can be found here.
