Robina business Poppy’s Chocolates took out Gold in the AusMumpreneur 2020 Awards for People’s Choice – Product on September 10.
Owner Lynda Pedder accepted the award in the ceremony, which was held online for the first time ever, and thanked her customers, the awards organisers and her family for their support.
“This year has been an extraordinary one,” Lynda said.
“Just before COVID hit, I was ready to give up on this business. I was on a rollercoaster ride but there were more downs than ups. Sometimes I loved it, sometimes I didn’t, but when COVID hit I knew I had to either save Poppy’s Chocolate or end it. I just got way out of my comfort zone, put myself on a Facebook video and asked customers for support.
“The people that came out of the woodwork to support me blew my mind. School friends from primary school bought my chocolates, we quickly pivoted to online selling and our average sale was more than double the average sale in our physical shop. Our amazing customers gave me the courage to keep going and to continue to get out of my comfort zone. They told me they loved my video stories and seeing our chocolates being made. They showed their love by buying lots of our chocolates and reminded me why I was here doing this.
“It takes lots of grit and a tonne of gratitude to succeed in any business, especially when you have children, but I’m so grateful to be here.
“Thank you for this honour.”
