This year, World Doughnut Day was celebrated on June 2. It began as a fundraiser in 1938, started by the Salvation Army to help those in need during the Great Depression. This year, OMG! Decadent Donuts has taken on the mantle of helping others, raising money for Australian charity Orange Sky.
OMG! Decadent Donuts is an Australian business that makes delicious doughnuts that are free from gluten, dairy, egg, wheat, nuts, yeast, and sulphites and are vegan.
Over the course of June 2–4, $5 from every box of 12 doughnuts sold was donated to Orange Sky, with the doughnut brand inviting their customers to make the same generous donation.
Orange Sky is an Australian charity assisting those experiencing homelessness by providing regular laundry and shower services. The event was intended to raise awareness as well as funds for the worthy cause.
“When OMG came to us and suggested this collaboration, we couldn’t have been happier,” said Nic Marchesi, Co-Founder of Orange Sky.
“We love that OMG! Decadent Donuts are inclusive, as this really resonates with the core values of Orange Sky.”
With Australian homelessness having increased rapidly over the past few years, the work that Orange Sky does remains invaluable.
CEO and fellow Co-Founder of Orange Sky, Lucas Patchett, added, “We know Aussies are doing it really tough right now. With the cost of living continuing to increase and the housing crisis, we have seen that a lot of people over the past two years are finding themselves in really tough situations, which they never thought they would be in.”
David Moore, director and spokesperson of OMG! Decadent Donuts, said, “We’re a family-owned Australian business, our licensees throughout Australia are all locals to their regions, and there is not one region in Australia that is exempt from needing the support of Orange Sky. We want to draw attention at a community level to the need to support people who are either homeless, experiencing hardship, or in need due to a natural disaster.”
All of OMG!’s doughnuts are dusted with unique blends of natural fruits, vegetables, and spices. During this event from June 2–4, there was also an ‘Orange Sky’ doughnut dusted with a blend of orange and cinnamon sugar.
