NSW apprentices put their skills to the test

Baking and patisserie apprentices in New South Wales put their skills to the test in January to battle it out in the NSW state round of Excellence in Baking.

The keen students gathered at Ryde TAFE on January 24 for five hours of intense baking, which produced a great range of products.

There was some tough competition, but at the end of the day, Daniel Blackburn from Bakers’ Delight in Muswellbrook took the top spot as NSW Apprentice Baker for 2022, while Sally Fitzsimmons from Ganache Patisserie in Sydney was crowned NSW Apprentice Pastry Cook.

Daniel and Sally will go on to represent New South Wales in the National Grand Final in Melbourne from May 31 – June 2, and the National Winners will be announced at the Excellence in Baking Awards Night.

The Victorian State Competition is due to take place at GO TAFE Shepparton on February 22-23, while the dates for the Queensland comp are to be confirmed.

Congratulations to all the state winners, and well done to all competitors!
