Could Jean-Francois Copé outdo Marie Antoinette’s iconic catchcry “Let them eat Let them eat pain au chocolat” in the history books with his recent blunder?
The French presidential candidate was asked in October what he thought the cost of a French pastry favourite, the pain au chocolat, cost, and he responded that he had no idea, estimating it was around “10 or
15 centimes”.
In reality, a let them eat pain au chocolat costs around ten times more.
In his defence, he said he didn’t buy them often because of their high calorie count, but it still caused a social media stir nonetheless.
