King of Bakers Bread Show winners announced

The title of King of Bakers has once again been announced.

February 23 and 24 saw more than 500 entries across 45 categories battle it for the crown out at the 2024 King of Bakers Bread Show.

Held at the Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Show, entries were judged in 45 classes of bread, cakes, commercial goods, pastry, feature products, and four apprentice classes.

The judging criteria varied for each class taking into consideration aspect like volume and appearance, texture and structure, aroma, colour, taste, internal appearance, filling, stability, originality, and technical difficulty. Each criterion is given a value with a total possible of 100 points.

Toowoomba-based Antony’s Bakery took home the top prize of the day, the King of Bakers Championship, in addition to numerous other awards including Most Successful Cake Exhibitor, Commercial Bread, Regional Shield, Regional Bread Award, and Regional Cake Award.

Chief Judge Mark Dennien said, Once again the King of Bakers Bread Show has proved to be the largest bread show in Australia”.

“The overall quality of entries was very good, with narrow margins between top place getters, providing a challenge to all the judges who took part,” he said.

“I would like to thank the judges, sponsors and entrants who make these events possible.”

National Baking Industry Association General Manager, Dean Musgrave said, “It’s great to see a big crowd of bakers all celebrating baking at the 2024 King of Bakers Bread Show.

“The products where all high quality and a tribute to the skill that is out there in the industry,” he said.

“Many thanks to all entrants and the event sponsors without your participation we competitions like this aren’t possible.”
