Sydney-based Gelato Messina has opened the doors to its first Singapore store.
The cult favourite gelato store quietly opened the doors to the store on May 6, with Singapore-specific flavours such as Kaya Toast (kaya gelato with dehydrated toast and kaya jam); Teh Tarik (milk tea gelato); Tau Huay (lightly sweetened tofu gelato); Yolk’s On You (salted egg yolk gelato with gula melaka caramel); and Singapore, How You Durian (coconut gelato with durian jam and durian cake). This is in addition to 35 core gelato flavours.
The new Gelato Messina store is located in Chinatown with a seating area for 20 people.
Gelato Messina first rose to fame in 2002 when founder Nick Palumbo moved from Adelaide to open a gelato store in Sydney. He now co-owns the business with his brother Danny, head chef Donato Toce and Declan Lee. There are now 30 Gelato Messina stores around Australia, and two in Hong Kong.
Drawing on their skills, the entire range – including the brownies, pastries, pralines, chocolate, dulce de leche and fudge – is made in-house by the team of pastry chefs.
