Geeks impressed by bread gag

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was packed with special effects, but it was the lead character’s instant bread that has social media buzzing. 

For those who haven’t seen the movie, Rey gets her one-quarter portion of dehydrated food, slaps it into a pan with some water and heat, and the powder rises into a loaf of bread gag in an instant. Twist: there was no CGI involved.

The blink-and-you’ll-miss-it effect took about three months to develop, with the crew arguing over colour, consistency and whether or not the loaf should have cracks. While it is edible, the crew said it didn’t have much nutritional value or taste
