Food Voyageur opens in Melbourne

Rachithri ‘Rachi’ Fernandopulle has opened Food Voyageur in Balaclava

Before Food Voyageur opened the doors to its Melbourne-based store, it had already carved out a reputation for itself thanks to its online presence.

The new bakery is the brainchild of chef and owner Rachithri ‘Rachi’ Fernandopulle, who took the leap and opened a bricks-and-mortar store earlier this year, saying the move was partly driven by consumer demand.

Food Voaygeur’s popularity has been built off its extensive – and seasonal – cupcake range, which sees up to 10 flavours available in-store daily, although it’s their vintage cakes that have cemented its place in the foodie city.

“Our vintage cakes have always been popular online and we have found the same since the store opened,” Rachi said.

“The red velvet cupcake is by far the most popular. I’ve been told it’s the best in Melbourne. We use real cream cheese, and I tried and tested many recipes to get our final version of the Red Velvet.

“I love experimenting with flavours and I can’t wait to keep bringing more exciting cupcakes to the new store.”
