As of today, entries are officially open for the 36th Official Great Aussie Pie Competition.

Set to be held as part of Fine Food Australia, at the ICC Sydney from September 8-11, 2025, the competition is shaping up to be a great one.

In previous years the competition has attracted thousands of entries. In 2025, the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition will have 15 categories, with more than $50,000 in cash and products up for grabs.

A new addition to the 2025 competition is the Official Grand Champion Prize, which could be awarded to the bakery that takes out both the Overall Plain Pie and Sausage Roll categories – coming with the opportunity to win more than $21,000 in cash and prizes.

The full list of competition categories is as follows:

• Plain Meat Pie (Mince, Chunky and Mince Chunky Combo),
• Apprentice Gourmet Pie (Free Category) – Vegetarian/Vegan Pie
• Gourmet Pie (Red Meat, Poultry, Pork, Game, Vegetarian/Vegan, Seafood, Gluten Free, Apple, Brekkie Pie, Shepherd’s Pie/Potato Top Pie & Slow-Cooked BBQ Pie)
• Pastie
• Sausage Roll (Plain, Gourmet & Gluten-Free)
• The John Ross Innovation Award
• Tom Lindsay Pepper Steak Award
• A new “Manufacturing Category” will be added this year and, within this category, the Manufacturer can enter into three sub-categories: plain pie, plain sausage roll and gourmet pie (which has 11 gourmet types). This category is for larger manufacturers whose products are mechanically constructed.

The 2024 The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition was hotly contested, and saw Buddy Bakery from Melton, Victoria, take home the coveted Plain Meat Pie Competition for their chunky pie, and Four Seasons Patisserie & Bakery from High Wycombe in WA come in second. Hack’s Bakery from WA won the Gourmet Pie title for their lamb and red wine pie, while Orange Spot Bakery from South Australia took out both the Sausage Roll and Pastie categories. Orange Pie Company took home the Gourmet Sausage Roll title for their maple bacon and hazelnut sausage roll.
