As Cyclone Alfred approaches, local bakeries like Country Crumbs Bakery in Casino, NSW, have become beacons of support in uncertain times.
On Wednesday, March 5, the bakery achieved an extraordinary feat: selling 1,000 loaves of bread by early morning – a stark contrast to their typical 400-loaf daily sales.
The bakery’s was able to respond quickly to increased demand. Despite initially selling out by 7.30am they decided to promptly bake more bread.
Bakery owner Sarah Mess has assured customers that they’ll be back at it again, anticipating an even higher demand as the storm draws closer.
Country Crumbs Bakery, along with other Northern Rivers-based establishments like Dave’s Bakehouse in nearby Kyogle, is doing everything possible to ensure residents have what they need in preparation for the cyclone.
Bread, along with toilet paper and water, has been stripped from supermarket shelves along Australia’s eastern coast ahead of Cyclone Alfred’s anticipated landing.
