Luna’s Deli, a new artisan bakery and café, is set to officially open its doors on June 28, on Marine Parade in Coolangatta, offering meticulously handmade pastries, gelato, and focaccia sandwiches inspired by the culinary traditions of France and Italy.

The seaside venue is the brainchild of chefs Loic and Yazmin, whose combined training in Michelin-starred kitchens brings a level of refinement rarely found in casual coastal settings.

The couple, who met over a decade ago during their patisserie training, have long shared a vision of opening a space that fuses their European heritage with the relaxed vibe of the Gold Coast. Their backgrounds—Loic from Lyon, France, and Yazmin from Argentina with strong Italian roots—inform every element of the menu and the deli’s aesthetic.

“We wanted to keep the quality and craft we learned in France, but bring it into a more casual, coastal setting,” Yazmin told The Weekend Edition.

The fit-out of Luna’s Deli reflects that ethos: sunlit interiors, striped yellow-and-white upholstery, and panoramic ocean views evoke the Riviera, while an open kitchen design allows customers to watch the precision behind each creation—from the lamination of croissants to the spinning of gelato.

On the menu, the deli focuses on a concise but deliberate offering of baked goods and light meals. The pastry cabinet features French classics like pain suisse, as well as the medialuna—a hybrid pastry Yazmin likens to “a delightful cross between brioche and croissant.”

Focaccia sandwiches are available with standout options like the pumpkin and nocciola, or the earthy mushroom-and-truffle toastie known as the Truffle Shroomie.

The commitment to craftsmanship extends to the bakery’s three-day pastry process, which includes slow fermentation and careful folding to develop depth of flavour and ideal texture.

With plans underway for evening events such as pizza nights, empanada gatherings, and pastry workshops, the team aims to build a dynamic community hub centred around shared culinary experiences.
