Blue white and red ribbons sit flat on a table with an array of golden trophies lined up behind them. Each one has Wollongong Baking Show written on them.

Early August will see NSW-based bakers preparing to head to the Wollongong Baking Show for the 2024 competition.

Scheduled for August 7, 2024, and hosted by the Baking Association of Australia, the competition is always popular.

The 2023 Wollongong Baking Show was well attended, with 237 pieces of product entered by 66 bakeries.

Baking Association of Australia executive officer Tony Smith said one of the highlights of the competition was its ability to bring in people from far and wide. One competitor was a 15-year-old female apprentice who travelled from Mudgee to Wollongong to enter.

The Champion Loaf of the Show was awarded to Lagom Bakery for flavoured Sourdough, and Renee Bridges from the Gumnut Patisserie won the Champion Cake/Pastry of the Show for her Gateau. Jason Crouch brought in a win for Bakers Delight Albion Park Rail with the Most Successful Bread Exhibitor. Lastly Damo Wright, representing the Parfait Patisserie, won the Most Successful Cake Exhibitor award.

The 2024 competition will be held at Illawarra TAFE from 9am until 3pm.

Entries are still open, and more information can be found  on the Baking Association of Australia website.
