The quest to find the nation’s young Bake Skills champion baker and pastry chef will resume in 2021.
Kicking off on September 5, with an orientation and practice day for the pastry finalists, two days of competition will follow before the bakers take to the stage for their finals on September 8.
The pastry competitors will have two days to produce a range of modern baking products including modern eclairs, Mille Feuille, palmiers, profiteroles, Paris Brest, Gateau St Honore, gourmet pies, a decorated special occasion cake and a Callebaut Innovation Entremet.
The bakers will showcase their skills across a selection of sour and sweet yeast doughs, as well as baguettes, Turkish and brioche. Two new items for the 2021 competition include a vegetarian croissant, both plain and flavoured, and a gluten-free challenge.
When it comes to prizes, the winners will be given the choice of three options: attending the IBA baking show in Germany, which is currently scheduled to run in late 2022; IBIE in Las Vegas; or FoodHotel Asia in Singapore.
The runners up in both categories will receive a three day, two night domestic prize including a day in the marketplace with the ASB; attendance at the ASB National conference, and Chairman’s Awards dinner.
