Some of the most talented Aussie barista crowned world from across the world converged on the Gold Coast in late September for an epic battle of the bean, with Australian Justin Porrett from Gloria Jeans Coffees Lismore taking out the title of Retail Food Group’s (RFG) International Barista Champion.

Justin impressed judges with his ginger, cucumber, and lime espresso signature beverage, beating regional finalists from New Zealand, Asia and the USA, who were each tasked with creating their best single espresso, latte, and espresso-based signature beverage.

Competitors were judged on taste, technique, Aussie barista crowned world and presentation, and technical judge Peita Laws said Justin’s technical skills got him across the line.

“Justin was technically flawless; his workflow and station management created a great consistency in his espresso, forming the perfect base for each drink,” she said.

Justin took home $6000 for winning.
