The Foodco 2015 barista Champion has been announced. twenty five-year-old franchise-owner from Western Australia, Celeste light, is at the top of her game.
After going head-to-head with 300 baristas from Muffin break and Jamaica blue franchisees across Australia and new Zealand, the young Muffin break Ellenbrooke owner took home the champion title.
this year marked the ninth year of the annual competition, designed to test and reward the professional coffee-making skills of Foodco’s Muffin break and Jamaica blue staff.
in addition to being assessed on her customer service and technical skills, Celeste was scored on the flavour, volume and appearance of her coffee served to the event judges. Points were also awarded for technical knowledge and skill operating the espresso machine and grinder, as well as the presentation of cups, glasses and accessories.
With just 15 minutes to present 12 cups of coffee, Celeste showcased her skills to judges by serving up four espressos, four cappuccinos and four examples of latte art.
“it has been a really special week here in Sydney and i have been very fortunate to share this experience with my family. i can’t wait to go back to WA to show my staff and customers what we have all achieved,” she said after winning top gong.
Celeste was a finalist in last year’s competition, which she said gave her the motivation to practice coffee extraction, milk frothing and pouring for 12 months.
in addition to winning the coveted title of 2015 Muffin break Franchisee barista Champion, Celeste has won a week’s supply of Muffin break coffee and milk for her Ellenbrook bakery-café. Her prize pack also includes a coffee-themed holiday where she will get to experience the whole caffeinated process from the plant to the pour of the aromatic Arabica coffee.
