Wholegreen Bakery has been awarded the Champion Bread title at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Awards

Gluten-free bakery Wholegreen Bakery has taken home the the Champion Bread title at the 2026 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show.

In a stunning result, the bakery was awarded the top trophy for its vegan gluten-free plain sourdough 500g entry, which was blind judged in the bread category – not gluten-free – alongside all other bread entries.

A Wholegreen Bakery spokesperson said the judges had assessed products on qualities including appearance, flavour, texture, technique and artistry.

“For Wholegreen the result represents something the bakery has been working towards since it was founded: proving that gluten-free food can stand on its own merits and compete with the very best products in its category,” they said.

“Originally, gluten-free was the specification. Champion Bread was the award.

“The Champion-winning vegan gluten-free plain sourdough has been developed to deliver the qualities people look for in an everyday loaf without compromising on flavour or texture.”

In addition to the Champion Bread title, Wholegreen Bakery brought home 15 medals from 18 entries.

Little Secrets Bakehouse in Alexandria was awarded the Champion Pastry title for their citrus meringue tart, while Iseo Patisserie at Maquarie Park won Champion Cake for their vegan gluten-free banana cake. Champion Biscuit went to Sweet Ivy in Mosman for their Lemon Macaron.

Judging for the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show took place in August, with the initial results announced on August and the Champions revealed on September 15, 2026.
