The hot cross bun collaboration includes a savoury cheesy jalapeno variety with Doritos

Love them or loathe them, hot cross buns are already hitting supermarket and bakery shelves across the country.

For years now unique spins on the popular Easter treat have been released, and it appears 2026 will be no different.

Supermarket giant Coles is currently leading the pack after announcing they will be stocking four unique flavour collaborations this year, two of which were produced in partnership with Arnott’s and Dorito’s.

First off the mark will be the savoury Easter Dorito variety, inspired by cheesy jalapenos, followed by  a Mint Slice hot cross bun in collaboration with Arnott’s. This variety will be filled with chocolate chunks and peppermint-flavoured fudge pieces in a chocolate dough. The remaining two releases will their Coles Easter Sticky Date and Matcha & Raspberry hot cross buns.

The new range is expected to be available from February 2.

Variations on the classic hot cross bun have risen dramatically in recent years. In 2024 Woolworths unveiled its Biscoff-filled hot cross bun range and UK chain M&S released its Extremely Lemony Curd Filled Hot Cross Buns. Bakeries have also jumped on the trend, with combinations like Tiramisu Hot Cross Buns, Apple Crumble Hot Cross Buns, Coffee and Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Bun and even Rhubarb and Custard Hot Cross Buns all making an appearance.
