Textbook Patisserie closes its doors

The famous Textbook Boulangerie-Patisserie has closed its doors after seven years of serving up bread and pastries to Sydneysiders.

Pastry chef and Textbook owner John Ralley announced the news to loyal customers on social media, just a year after opening a second store at Bondi.

“Like for many in the industry, the past couple of years have been very tough and I have decided to do something else,” he wrote.

“Thanks to everyone for your support and involvement during those years. Stay tuned for what’s next.”

The post attracted an outpouring of support from customers and supporters in the industry, many expressing sadness at the news and empathising with the business’ plight throughout the pandemic.

“COVID has ruined our industry,” one comment read.

“What a shame. You made the best coffees, breads and desserts. Will miss you and all the very best on your new venture,” said another.

A liquidator was appointed on May 30, the same day the doors closed.
