Talented Apprentices Recognised

After eight months of competitions around the country, the Excellence in Baking 2014 winners have been announced.

Record crowds gathered at Hobart’s Wrest Point Casino to encourage the state winners of the Excellence in Baking competition, who were flown in courtesy of EOI Peerless and the competition’s supporting sponsors.

Congratulations to the official 2014 national apprentice baker Deborah Trebilcock from the Northern Territory, and national apprentice pastry cook Mikayla Brightling, from New South Wales.

This is the second year the Northern Territory has taken out the title for best apprentice baker.

The sponsors offered each national winner $1500, with EOI Peerless national sales manager Peter Le Sueur saying, “it was a wonderful competition to be a part of, and allows our industry youth to continue in their trade”.

“A competition of this statue would not be possible without our sponsors, who bring everyone together,” Baking Association of Australia executive director Tony Smith added.

“Well done everybody on a fantastic competition.”
