Long live the King

In Queensland, the Toowoomba Royal Baking show has been the pinnacle of achievement for bakers for half a century, with baking royalty converging on the show each year hoping their wares will emerge victorious.

For the second year in a row, Antony Blackey of Antony’s Bakery and Patisserie, based in the High Street Plaza in Toowoomba took out the coveted King of the Bakers prize, along with a plethora of other awards including the Regional Shield, Most Successful Cake Exhibitor, Regional Bread Award and Regional Cake Award.

This year, those vying for the King of the Bakers crown came in throngs, surpassing last year’s number of entries by 150. Following the official judging, officials, competitors, families and supporters celebrated their hard work at the presentation dinner where the awards were announced.
