Continuing the theme of kindness in crisis, it’s encouraging to see that it isn’t only the little guys opening their hearts and wallets to support those who are struggling, as Krispy Kreme delivers sweet relief to US healthcare workers.
And in this time of pandemic, the ones really struggling are the healthcare workers on the frontline who are putting themselves at risk, working long, exhausting and often thankless hours, unable to keep up with the demand of this unprecedented situation.
Fortunately for healthcare workers in the US – which is the hardest-hit nation outside of China with more than 216,000 cases and over 5000 deaths – Krispy Kreme has stepped up to the plate to make sure there’s something tasty waiting in the break room.
The global doughnut giant announced that on Mondays from March 30 – National Doctor’s Day – and continuing through National Nurses Week, ending May 12, they will be giving free “Original Glazed” doughnuts to the hardworking healthcare community.
“Just go to a Krispy Kreme drive-thru, tell us what you need and show us your employer badge,” Krispy Kreme announced in a statement.
“That’s it. Pick up some free dozens on the way to work for you and your colleagues, or maybe a free dozen on your way home to family after a long shift.”
Although it’s only a US initiative for now, Krispy Kreme Australia said it was exploring possibilities when a fan asked about it on its Aussie Facebook page.
“That was our team in the US – a great initiative for the community in these times! We were able to deliver some doughnuts to the hospitals in New Zealand last week and we’re currently exploring what’s possible for us here in Australia,” the Krispy Kreme Australia representative wrote.
“It’s fantastic to see the world come together and we would love to help share the joy in times like these.”
Unfortunately, while its drive-thru stores are still open in Australia, the company had to make the “difficult decision” to temporarily close its non-drive-thru stores, including airports.
“We hope that you understand the need for us to temporarily close some of our stores at this time,” Krispy Kreme stated.
“But rest assured we are working hard to adjust our model so we can continue to serve you and bring a spark of Joy to our communities as we work together to beat COVID-19.”
