Thirty-five employees in Central and Far North Queensland have lost their jobs as part of a major restructure of Australian bread supplier Goodman Fielder, according to a recent ABC News report.
Company spokesperson Martin Cole said “difficult trading conditions” prompted plans to close its Rockhampton bakery in July and its Cairns facility early next year.
Goodman Fielder’s Townsville operation will undergo an upgrade.”In total it’s around 35 positions will be made redundant across those two facilities but we will be expanding the Townsville facility, we’ll be offering redeployment opportunities where that’s available to our employees,” Mr Cole told ABC News.
“It’s really in response to what are continued difficult trading conditions and we need to make sure we can improve our manufacturing efficiency, and that’s why we’ve made this decision.”
