Gumnut Patisserie’s top Royal Easter Show honour

Gumnut Patisserie has won the top Royal Easter Show honour, being awarded the Royal Agricultural Society’s (RAS) President’s Medal.
The award-winning Southern Highlands bakery beat 5000 entries in the quest for the Medal, which recognises a producers overall financial, social and environmental integrity through the entire production cycle from gate to plate. It draws from Sydney Royal Champions from throughout the year, examines, and celebrates truly inspirational, innovative agricultural food and beverage achievers.
“Their contribution to the Australian food and wine industries is world-class and guarantees that Australian consumers are the true winners … you are all the best of the best in your respective categories and outstanding ambassadors for your industry and Sydney Royal. Thank you for allowing us to join you on your journey towards excellence,” said RAS President Michael Millner as he congratulated all the finalists.
Gumnut Patisserie was not only judged on having the best tasting product, but also on its commitment to sustainability.
“They focused on how they could batch mix with much less waste and on where their raw materials come through and how they can minimise that just-in-time use,” judge Michael Bullen said.
He also noted their excellence in training up-and-coming bakers and pastry chefs.
“Their wall of champion apprentices really underpins their commitment to supporting their staff and growing the business … across Australia,” he said.
