Got Cakey connecting the baking industry

Got Cakey—an app developed by a 14-year-old—is helping connect bakers to more clients. Blayz Meredith has created a double-sided marketplace that connects talented bakers with clients looking for that perfect insta-worthy cake.

The app helps prevent buyers from spending hours searching for a baker while placing a spotlight on talented bakers who want to share their skills and products. When speaking to the Herald Sun, Blayz detailed just how the marketplace app would work.

“By connecting bakers with buyers, we’ve flipped the way people discover and order cakes,” Blayz said.

“Buyers simply describe the sweet treat they’re looking for, set a budget, and watch the quotes roll in. It’s super simple, and you can easily compare quotes, look at a baker’s portfolio of previous cakes and reviews, and pick the best baker for the job.”

The cake and baking industry in Australia is worth over a billion dollars and apps like these are helping bakers to take more of a slice of that pie. Small Business Australia Executive Director Bill Lang when speaking to the Herald Sun commented on the apps ability to help people turn side hustles into an income during the cost-of-living crisis pinches small businesses are feeling.

“It is reflective of a changing world and access to technology that you no longer need a bricks and mortar business to supply product to the consumers and for entrepreneurs, whatever age, they can now market from anywhere to anyone,” Bill Lang said.

“With the squeeze on budgets, creating novel ways to generate income through a side hustle is one way to alleviate that pressure and there are many stories where a clever idea has generated substantial income.”

The app will be available around the country in June after its successful soft launch in January.
