Excellence in Baking 2016 – The BAA and the gold national sponsor EOI will welcome all state finalists to Sydney in November as they compete against each other for the national title of Apprentice Pastry Cook and Apprentice Baker 2016.
The competition is in its fourth year and is heavily supported by the industry and the state TAFE system. The competitors will arrive on Wednesday, November 16, and compete on Thursday, November 17, at the facilities of the TAFE NSW Ultimo.
The industry will gather on Sydney Harbour on Friday, November 18, for a four-hour harbour cruise, where the official winners will be announced.
BAA executive officer Tony Smith said this competition brought many young people together from all over Australia.
The BAA is also using the apprentice baker competition side of things as guide for selecting state candidates for L A Judge.
Tony also said next year, after much industry discussion, Excellence in Baking 2016. the BAA would be adding a trades-qualified title to the competition, allowing trades-qualified bakers and pastry cooks to compete against each other, and then come together for a national bake-off title.
“We also need to keep our industry interested after they have completed their apprenticeships,” he said.
