Cult bakery item makes a golden return to shelves

The much loved and long-lost Crumpet Toast has made its way back to shelves in Australia. Tip Tops Golden Crumpet toast made the comeback this week at Coles and Woolworths after 10 years of absence. With many ecstatic over its return some are shocked at the hefty $7 price tag for the loaf.

The toast has the texture of toast but the taste of a crumpet and was popular when it was previously stocked in supermarket bakeries.

“Each slice is crunchy on the outside, soft and spongy in the middle; it is scrumptious with butter and honey, or your choice of tasty toppings. Never a boring bite,” the product description says.

The divisive internet community speculated over the price. Some were satisfied enough with its return regardless of the price with others outright refusing to buy it.

“$7 is a joke,” said one Instagram user.

“Not tasty enough to pay that price. I prefer normal crumpets,” another person said.

Its no surprise upon its return that the price has been hiked up considering inflation and the cost-of-living changes over the last ten years. How soon will it be before it disappears from shelves once again for another ten years?
