Coles Bakery has taken home the title for the nation’s best supermarket bread.

Following a survey of more than 2000 people the own brand white loaf, which comes in at $3.10, beat out products from Aldi and Woolworths to be crowned Canstar’s 2026 Most Satisfied Customers Award for white bread.

The loaf was given five stars for overall satisfaction, freshness, value for money, and variety, and four stars for taste and texture.

Coles’ homebrand also took the top spot for the best-rated wholemeal loaf, which scored a solid four stars for texture, freshness, taste, variety, and value for money, and five stars for overall satisfaction.

Aldi’s Bakers Life came in top for the best-rated multigrain bread.

In a unique twist, this was the first year that all three categories went to own brand breads.

Canstar spokesperson Eden Radford told Yahoo!Life that these results made it clear that switching to home-brand doesn’t mean sacrificing on quality.

“In fact, with home-brand products sweeping all three bread categories in this year’s Canstar Most Satisfied Customer Awards, it’s clear shoppers aren’t just saving money, they’re genuinely impressed with quality,” Eden said.

“In a cost of living crunch, that’s a win worth celebrating.”

Further results revealed through the survey include:

• One-quarter of those surveyed opted for thick-sliced varieties, and more than half (52 per cent) of Australians buy at least one loaf of bread each week.
• The average spend on a single loaf of bread was $4.80.
• Twenty-nine per cent will buy two loaves of bread each week, and 12 per cent will go through three loaves.
