It’s official – Buddy Bakery Melton is home to the nation’s best pie, after claiming the title of Australia’s Best Pie last week

It was the second time in the past 12 months the Melbourne-based bakery has taken home the golden trophy for their chunky plain beef pie, after they also claimed the 2024 The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition title.

The Australia’s Best Pie competition was held in Sydney last week as part of the Baking Association of Australia’s Baking Industry Trade Show.

Chief Judge Stewart Latter said the competition had received record numbers of entries in 2025 – 370 bakeries from across the country, including Darwin – to be exact, with a total of 1875 pies and pasties.

“It’s been a massive three days,” he said.

Australia’s Best Pastie was won by Brisbane’s Ray’s Patisserie. In the National Artisan Baking Competition Bonfire Bread Marrickville took out the Champion Product of Show and the Champion Sourdough Loaf, while Champion Vienoisserie was won by Parfait Patisserie.

In the National Donut the Champion Show Donut was awarded to Dolly’s Donuts.
