More than 220 people were on hand to celebrate the Rotary-sponsored 2013 Riverland and Mallee Vocational Awards, which were held in Renmark, SA.
Teagan Matthews from Barmera Bakery won the coveted Apprentice of the Year category at the regional awards night, with Berri Rotary Club president Andrew Gower saying the region’s young people displayed “amazing skills”.
“Apprenticeships and traineeships are vital to any community. They provide opportunities for our young people to gain sustainable employment skills in areas, such as building and construction, electrical, engineering, automotive, hairdressing, cooking and baking, printing and graphic arts,” he said.
“By providing apprenticeships and traineeship opportunities, local businesses not only ensure their own survival into the future, but also help our communities keep some of its best talent at home.”
