Pictured is Jason Spencer from Banana Boogie Bakery. Jason is a while man with a bald head and facial hair. He stands behind a counter, holding a ribbon that says Australia's Best Sausage Roll. Next to him is a gold trophy that also says Australia's Best Sausage Roll. He has two sausage rolls sitting on the counter in front of him.

Banana Boogie has beat out 250 other pastries to claim multiple gold trophies again at the Baking Association of Australia’s 2024 South Australian Baking Show held in early July.

The Belair-based bakery took home the top gong for both the Best Sausage Roll as well as the Vanilla Slice title, among other medals.

CJ’s Bakery, located in Christies Beach, also stole the show by talking home an impressive 11 trophies including Best Wholemeal Loaf Upright, Gourmet Pull Apart Bread, Decorated Sponge, and Seafood Pie.

Banana Boogie Bakery owner Jason Spencer, who runs the bakery with his wife Kelly, shared with Adelaide Now that there was a bit of a secret to capturing the right flavour for a sausage roll, but he couldn’t give it away.

“People are usually quite surprised when they hear it as well. It’s not what you might expect,” he said.

Jason did share that high quality meat with the right fat content also played its part.

The Champion Cake / Patry of the Show – Margaret Davey Trophy was awarded to Canelle French Pastries, while Sunraysia Bread and Butter took home the Champion Loaf of the Show – Jan Huis in’t Veld Trophy.
