The meat pie has topped the list of Australia's favourite pies

In the wake of National Pie Day in late January, Australia’s favourite pies have been revealed.

Built from data logged in food tracking app MyFitnessPal between December 1, 2024 and December 1, 2025, the most popular type of Aussie pies, in order, are:

  • Meat pie
  • Shepherd’s/Cottage pie
  • Apple pie
  • Chicken pie
  • Cheese pie
  • Mince pie
  • Potato pie
  • Banoffee pie
  • Vegetable pie
  • Lemon meringue pie

Women dominated in pie logging on the app too, making up 61 per cent of all those recorded, while the most common age group was 25-34-years-of age.

Nutritionist and MyFitnessPal ambassador Michaela Sparrow said, “n Aussie pie isn’t just food, it’s tradition wrapped in pastry. We don’t just eat pies – we grow up with them. A pie in hand is practically a national love language.”

“The data from MyFitnessPal shows the humble meat pie continues to be the overwhelming favourite among Aussies, enjoyed all hours of the day. But, like anything in nutrition or health, it’s all about a balanced mindset.

“The good news is that there are ways to enjoy pies without the guilt. For example, vegetable-loaded pies like spinach, mushroom, lentil or mixed veg, are typically higher in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, which help with digestion and overall health. Lean protein pies or wholegrain or wholemeal crust pies are also good alternatives.

“Pairing your favourite pie with a side salad or veggies and keeping portions reasonable also helps you to enjoy Australia’s most beloved food tradition.”

It’s estimated Australians eat up to 270 million meat pies each year – that’s 12 meat pies per person.
