After around 500 packaged foods available on supermarket shelves were put through rigorous review, Goodness Superfoods and Helga’s Continental Bakehouse have been commended for combining nutrition and taste.
The Healthy Food Awards 2014, which is judged by experts in diet, nutrition and health, awarded first place in the bread category to Goodness Superfoods Wholegrain Barley Wraps, with Helga’s Lower Carb 5 Seeds taking the runner-up position. Burgen Gluten Free Soy-Lin bread attracted a highly commended accolade in the Best Gluten-Free Staple category.
The awards take into consideration product packaging claims and nutritional information, value for money and taste, among other factors.
Andrea Duvall, member of the judging team and editor of Healthy Food Guide magazine, which hosted the awards, said the winning products are examples of nutritional, tasty and healthy choices for Australian families.
“We found Goodness Superfoods Wholegrain Barley wraps to be highest in fibre and lowest in sodium of the breads we reviewed, with low-GI and versatility too. Helga’s Lower Carb 5 Seeds contained only 19g CHO per two slices compared to the usual 26-30mg and would be a good choice for diabetics,” she said.
