From making pound cakes from water and mud and decorating them with flowers and twigs as a child, Top Gong to building a hugely successful donut company with a master’s degree in between, Callebaut’s young inspirer of the year certainly fits the bill.

A story where someone has followed their baking dream always tugs at our heartstrings. Sina Klug’s story is a donut fairytale. Under her label Nutie Donuts, she creates gluten-free, organic, baked donuts, made with love and premium ingredients.

The Cutie Donut crew have already outgrown their first bakery in less than two years and are about to renovate their first donut shop. Receiving inquiries from all over Australia, the dream is coming to life.

A year-and-a-half ago, Sina never would have imagined she would still be in Australia, having started a life and a business here. When Sina handed in her master’s thesis, she packed a tiny suitcase and boarded a flight to Sydney from her native Germany to work at the German Film Festival.

“I walked down a hidden street with a basket of cinnamon scrolls. I had a flight back home to Europe 13 days later. I met a boy. A crazy boy. An inspirational dreamer,” she says.

“It took us three months, endless sleepless nights and about fifty-seven bottles of Pinot Gris until we found our donut recipe.”

After seeing close friends struggle with coeliac disease and struggling with the lack of gluten-free treats available, Sina was inspired to create something not only healthy but also extremely tasty.

“Our goal is to put the healthy back in naughty and make healthy taste naughty,” Sina says.

“Within the next five years, we want to provide Australia’s biggest cities with our gluten-free deliciousness and prove healthy living doesn’t have to mean missing out on all the fun.

“Ten years from now I want to travel the world visiting Nutie kitchens on different continents, trying out flavors and glazes with native ingredients and keep trying to improve and develop our products.

“Only when I’m not too busy writing my own cookbook on a deserted island, obviously.”

Sina won a training course at Savour School in Melbourne and a VIP weekend at the Smooth Festival of Chocolate.
