Top Brisbane bakery closes for good after floods

Top Brisbane artisan bakery Crust & Company in the city’s inner north has announced it will close for good following the South East Queensland floods in March.

The Wilston store was inundated with flood waters, with imported, specialist French-made baking equipment worth hundreds of thousands destroyed.

“There’s so much to say in order to cover off the last nine years’’, the owners posted to their Facebook page on Monday.

“However, after much deliberation, reflection and careful consideration of our circumstances, we have decided to not rebuild Crust & Company.

“This blank space was stared at for quite some time, at a loss for words to convey the message to our community.

“Thank you all so very much for being a part of our journey of baked deliciousness! Unfortunately we won’t have the opportunity to say goodbye, to have that final chat or share stories once again. We wish to express our gratitude, from the entire team, for the support we received from our wider community. Support by way of patronage, in generosity during our most difficult of times and for championing our products.

“We hope you are doing well despite any challenges that life may throw your way. For our close neighbours and all others who suffered damage during the floods, we trust that you are recovering from the destruction that was – it’s a long path.
“Take care and thank you.”
