Rooftop bakery opens in Surry Hills

Surry Hills is in the midst of a boom in new food venues, and one of the most anticipated was the opening of A.P. House by All Purpose Bakery on the rooftop of Paramount House.

With A.P. Bakery’s Darlinghurst site set to open last year but facing repeated delays, A.P. House’s opening in February means the public can now get the bakery’s specialties, including buckwheat pain au chocolats, fresh coconut and mango danishes and smoked brisket pies.

Located next door to the Paramount Recreation Club, the all-weather rooftop bakery is littered with potted greenery, and seats 40 people who can enjoy their goods with a pretty view of the cityscape.

The A.P House crew include Ping Jin Ng (owner and founder of Golden Age Cinema & Bar and Paramount House Hotel), Russell Beard (owner and founder of Reuben Hills and Paramount Coffee Project) and Mat Lindsay (owner and chef at Poly and Ester; and co-owner of Shwarmama with Beard and Jin Ng) and Dougal Muffet (ex-Ester and Moonacres Kitchen in Robertson, Southern Highlands).
