No Ekka, no problem: A Brisbane Patisserie got creative beyond making show-inspired products; hosting a ‘mini Ekka’ to raise much-needed funds for charity.
With the Royal Queensland Show—known as the Ekka—cancelled for the second year running due to , Bulimba’s Darvella Patisserie held its own ‘Ekka Saturday’ on Saturday, August 14.
Complete with the things that attract families to the Brisbane Showground every year including petting zoo, kids’ face painting, live music, and of course, show food, the mini Ekka was well received by adults and kids alike.
As well as their spectacular Ekka-inspired Strawberry Sundae Croissants, the talented team at Darvella created a ‘pawsome’ range of RSPCA cupcakes, with proceeds from the cupcake sales going to the RSPCA.
By the end of the weekend, the cupcake sales had fetched $656 in total, with Darvella staff thanking everyone who stopped by for their support.
“A massive THANK-YOU to the wonderful community members and families who came down to Darvella this weekend for our mini EKKA!” they posted on social media along with an assortment of food and fun photos from the day.
“Our team loved seeing all of your faces.”
The Venzin Group, which owns Darvella, also decided to match the amount, resulting in a total of $1312 that will be donated to RSPCA Queensland.
RSPCA’s Cupcake Day was held on Monday, August 16, and has raised over $260,000 so far for animals in need.
