Interactive Exhibition Reveals Pastry Past

Sydneysiders were able to trace back through 120 years of NSW pastry trade training at a recent free exhibition at TAFE NSW.

The Sparkies, Foodies and Fashionistas exhibitionallowed visitors to experience a range of interactive exhibits, including Foodies on Show – a live video link from the TAFE’s training restaurant that watched students in action; photo journals following a day in the life of some of their passionate teachers; and video installations.

According to TAFE NSW, technical cake decorating skills have progressed considerably over the years, with past graduate Jessica Pedemont of Planet Cake and Chocolate Artisan fame an example of this progression.The Institute named Ms Pedemont as one of its 120 Years Ambassadors and she recently conducted masterclasses for current institute patisserie students.

Originally known as Sydney Technical College (STC), the TAFE has a rich history in providing education and training in NSW and remains one of Australia’s most prestigious technical colleges.
