More than 9000 Aussies have voted for their favourite supermarket finds and some surprise patisserie products came up shining, with Coles bakery dominating the Product of the Year awards for 2021.
The Coles Finest labelled chocolate and hazelnut mirror glaze mousse two-pack took out the top spot after a vote by 9000 Aussie shoppers, while the supermarket chain’s traditional recipe croissants won the bakery category.
Retailing at just $8 for a two-pack, the mirror-glazed cake was the first of its kind for major retailers in Australia, while according to Coles, the Traditional Recipe Croissants ($4 for a box of two) are crafted in France with premium French butter and are based off a traditional European recipe.
“We are seeing more customers turn to Coles for affordable luxury items, in addition to their essential groceries,” Coles chief executive commercial and express Greg Davis said.
“We’re also proud that the vast majority of our winning products are locally sourced because we know how important it is to be supporting local producers during these challenging times.”
Product of the Year is one of the world’s largest consumer-based awards programs, with more than 9000 shoppers casting votes for their favourite supermarket products. It began in France in 1987 and now runs in more than 40 countries. It started in Australia in 2010.
