For about a decade, a California bakery had been kept in business by Hollywood star Tom Cruise, who purchases a particular cake for his friends every year.
At just US$99 and with free shipping on food shipping website Goldbelly, the White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake from Doan’s Bakery is chump change for the actor whose net worth is $570 million, but it’s loved by all.
Those who are on his gift list all seem to rave about it — like Jimmy Fallon calling it “unbelievable,” Kirsten Dunst saying it’s “one of the best cakes I’ve ever had,” Henry Cavill describing it as “the most decadent, the most amazing” cake and Barbara Walters digging into it on The View.
The crave-worthy cake is a creation of Karen Doan, who founded Doan’s Bakery in 1984 and now runs it with her son Eric. Despite its worldwide renown, it’s still a family-owned and operated business, with a single location in Woodland Hills, California.
The White Chocolate Coconut Cake is Doan’s most famous creation, and for good reason. They start with a ring of moist, luxurious coconut bundt cake, mix in chunks of sweet white chocolate, layer on rich cream cheese frosting, and then dust it all over with toasted coconut flakes. The result is a delicious, pillowy cake good enough to derail the strictest Hollywood diets.
Cruise’s team buys several hundred of the cakes over the holiday period, and more throughout the year as a go-to gift.
